It’s OVER, Yet The Coronadoom Corpse Walks On: Updates — Coronavirus Update XXXIV

Testing is already at stupid levels, but it is scheduled to increase. This can make a dead epidemic seem still alive. Testing will make coronadoom zombies. Please spread this post wide and far.

MASKS

This was in yesterday’s post on Trump beating the doom, but I don’t want it lost:

On masks, from Dr Fauci himself.

In the United States, people should not be walking around with masks….There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask. When you’re in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better, and it might even block a droplet. But it’s not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is.

Joe Biden is calling for a national mask mandate. For a zombie bug.

GOOD NEWS

Update The Great Barrington Declaration

As infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists we have grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies, and recommend an approach we call Focused Protection.

Coming from both the left and right, and around the world, we have devoted our careers to protecting people. Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health. The results (to name a few) include lower childhood vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular disease outcomes, fewer cancer screenings and deteriorating mental health — leading to greater excess mortality in years to come, with the working class and younger members of society carrying the heaviest burden. Keeping students out of school is a grave injustice.

Keeping these measures in place until a vaccine is available will cause irreparable damage, with the underprivileged disproportionately harmed.

Update Against Fear

Under today’s safetyism mentality, sacrifice and risk-taking become unthinkable. The martial virtues of courage and stoicism have been sidelined and pathologized. When Trump briefly left Walter Reed on Sunday in a motorcade to greet supporters, a doctor at the hospital complained that the Secret Service agents in Trump’s limousine “might get sick. They may die.” These are the same Secret Service agents who are expected to take a bullet for a president. They were behind a plexiglass barrier in the car; all occupants were masked. Under our feminized ethos, showing resoluteness during a crisis, reassuring the public about one’s well-being, are no longer positive traits in a leader; they are violations of maximal risk aversion. (Of course, medical information about a president’s condition should be transparent.)

It’s not all bad news, though there is plenty of that. There are also bright spots.

First is Trump beating the doom. And then tweeting telling people not to fear. This will cause relexitarians, who take the opposite of whatever Trump says as gospel, to fear. The souls of these people are (mostly) lost anyway.

Florida released their fear and the Michigan Supreme Court quashed Governor Whitmer’s forever-extended State of Emergency. There hasn’t been anything even resembling an emergency for months. That didn’t stop her from declaring one because, presumably, she was in the mood.

Three weeks ago, I was told insistently to “wait two weeks” and then the UK would be under siege by its “second wave”. We’re still waiting for that two weeks.

The Mises folks now see that “cases” aren’t cases, which I have been screaming about forever: The Absurdity of Covid “Cases”.

If you—yes, you, dear reader—are saying “cases”, correct yourself. Say “tests” and “we don’t even know if they’re symptomatic.”

China’s Global Lockdown Propaganda Campaign (read all this, not just snippet):

International COVID-19 hysteria began around Jan. 23, when “leaked” videos from Wuhan began flooding international social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube—all of which are blocked in China—allegedly showing the horrors of Wuhan’s epidemic and the seriousness of its lockdown. Viral videos claimed to show residents spontaneously collapsing in the streets in scenes likened to the movie Zombieland and the show The Walking Dead. One video purportedly showed a SWAT team catching a man with a butterfly net for removing his mask. But in hindsight, this crisis theater is somewhat comical; in the infamous video, the “spontaneously collapsing” man extends his arms to catch himself.

This is good news because I well recall many of us on the right—never mind the left—bought these Chinese idiocies. Every new “leaked” video had many frogs tweeting “Here we go!”, almost taking delight at how bad things were becoming.

All efforts to calm the reactions were for naught. At first, anyway. It took months to calm the nervous down so that could see this for what it was.

BAD NEWS

There is much, but I’ll give you only one, which I think is worst.

Shoot up: Medical Journal Calls For Mandatory COVID Vaccine: “Non-Compliance Should Incur A Penalty”

“[T]he elderly, health professionals working in high-risk situations or working with high-risk patients…persons with certain underlying medical conditions,” as well as those in “high-density settings such as prisons and dormitories” should be mandated to get the jab, the paper says.

How quickly and with ease they move to mandated.

FLU WARNING!

We’re just entering the cold and flu season. And why, dear reader, is it “the” season? Because healthy people hunker down together inside to stay warm end up spreading the bug. Coincidentally, this locking down is the same “solution” hit upon by many governments to restrain the coronadoom. Strange, then, that it didn’t work, given our government is advised by experts.

My great fear is that since the testing is so sensitive and is at double plus good insane levels and only growing, cases of the common cold (caused in part by coronaviruses) and the flu will be classed as coronadoom this fall and winter.

It’s clear many want to keep the crisis going, and are looking for any excuse to do so. Colds & flu will be ideal for them to exploit, if they are of a mind.

The “good” news about this ploy, as far as we’re concerned, is that it will be harder to claim deaths were of the doom, since many of the most vulnerable were already carried off.

But I cannot stress enough how idiotic levels of increased testing can and will make things seem worse than they are. See below for why.

NUMBERS

Sources: daily tests, CDC official toll number one, number two (CDC has two official sources that have differences). The media reports are always greater than CDC numbers. Yes, these are the sources, which is why I call them “sources”, for the data. The other is the Google: type [LOCATION] coronavirus deaths. So when you email or comment asking for the sources, here they are.

I’ll give you the bad rotten terrible awful not good news first. Then I’ll give you bad rotten terrible awful horrible nauseating headache-inducing preposterously bad news.

First, the daily test numbers continue to increase.

Second, “President Trump announces massive Coronavirus testing expansion” (from a White House press release email). “President Trump has announced that his Administration will distribute 150 million rapid, point-of-care Coronavirus tests in the coming weeks. This action will more than double the total number of tests already performed in the United States.”

The insane level of testing already has nothing whatsoever to do with the deadliness of the disease. More testing can now only serve to keep the unnecessary panic going. Go back to last week and read about false positives and weak asymptomatic positives if you don’t understand why.

How do we know this? Here is the CDC on attributed weekly coronadoom deaths.

That number on the bottom of the y-axis is 0. As in zero. Which we are rapidly approaching. Let me use the grammatical trick beloved by kiddies (though I loathe it): It. Is. Over.

It is over. It is gone. It is not here, except as a residual. Yes, there will be updates to the figure, since most recent counts are always late, but this has been so every week. The signal is obvious. It is vamoosed. Since this bug, like all bugs, will be with us forever, we can never wait for 0 attributed deaths. If we wait for 0 deaths, we will wait forever.

Here are the CDC official weekly all cause death counts. As always, last three weeks are dots, it takes up to eight weeks to get all counts, but most are in by three. Dashed line is all cause minus attributed coronadoom.

The early die off scenario looking better and better: meaning the doom got some people early who would have died later this year. This guess is based on low number of all-cause deaths. We won’t know for sure until the end of the year.

One technical note. The CDC is backtracking on one official file! The old weekly file suddenly rolled back to a period in early 2019. This has until two weeks ago given the official all-cause deaths for every week for several years. The totals never matched exactly the new coronadoom numbers, so perhaps that’s why they took it out. But why to early 2019? I’ve used the file from week 38 to construct the plot about for figures before June 2020.

On Florida. Despite the Governor’s all clear our Bishop still insists on all the previous safeguards despite Mass attendance being down 80%. It is going to be a very slow comeback. I haven’t seen much change overall in mask wearing and social distancing. If Biden wins masks could become mandated and permanent until overturned by Supreme Court.

The right answer from the very beginning would be tell sick folks to stay home and take Covid deaths as collateral damage to maintaining jobs and the economy.

One of the charts that I update every morning is chart of total tests vs total positive results.

    Chart is here: http://solanumonlinemedia.com/images/Tests%20vs%20Positives%20100620.png

    For what it’s worth:

    R0 (3/1 to 5/31) = 57%
    R0 (6/1 to 7/31) = 93%
    R0 (8/1 to 10/5) = 24%

Casting a bigger and bigger net worked during the spring and summer, but now that ocean has been overfished and the cod are getting harder and harder to find.

This is bad news for the Doomers because a lot of the reopening metrics are tied to the mysterious and utterly corruptible “positivity” ratio, which can only go down as the number of tests increase. They can’t go on testing like crazy unless they want their metrics to start working against them.

The good news for politicians is that none of this is statistically sound, so they can just start cheating soon and get back where they need it to be. My prediction is that we are going to see large public testing centers closed and all testing shifted into medical settings, which in turn will reduce the denominator (number of tests) and help keep this panic metric going a bit longer by filtering total tests into those more likely to be positive.

On it’s face, looking for “spread in the community” is a good idea, but only if it’s a random sample that gets tested every day, which obviously isn’t happening.

  3. Sheri

But Joe IS a zombie bug, so I can see why he believes a zombie bug is a threat.

Governor Gretchen the Witch is already finding ways around the ruling. Dems never give up their dictatorships. They just find new paths. Plus, voters are idiots and deserve this.

My friend always said those original Wuhan videos looked like they were made on a movie set. It appears they were indeed. But the world is stupid and Chinese leaders are very smart, so no other outcome was to be expected. Stupid people panic easily, thus you can control and get them to destroy themselves so very, very easily.

Mandated flu shots for health care workers just reduced the number of HEALTH CARE WORKERS.

Again, I told everyone “TESTING IS A BAD IDEA”.

Maybe after the election, Trump will stop the nonsense, but don’t count on it. Trump DOES fear the media and polls and losing. Plus, my Yorkie has more medical and military knowledge than Trump. He can make the economy hum, but the Chinese can kill it with an invisible virus threat and a lot of great propaganda. How long before the Chinese find another invisible threat and take us out entirely?

Note: The Chinese destroyed virtually all the economies of the world, NOT JUST THE UNITED STATES. Only fools think this was an “out to get Trump” move.

Kind of off-topic, but I was searching with StartPage a bit ago. People it’s a good alternative to Google. Yet I got ALL left-wing propagana sites and publications just like Google. I see ZERO difference. Better yet, I am told I am not “tracked” by StartPage. I was also told that Covid would kill millions and millions and millions. Still, people repeat the “not tracked” value of StartPage. Sure, and there are unicorns and fairies, too. Cavemen were smarter. Of course, in that case, stupidity killed quickly.

Many republicans crow about American Exceptionalism but look at the candidates for The POTUS. In a country of over 300 million people, are they the best we can do?

    Yep.

Now that ABS is retired he has been watching “The Wire” and in the Third Season of that show a Baltimore City Councilman, Tommy Carcetti, delivers a speech in a cadence and with an earnest conviction that was reminiscent of Bobby Kennedy and so ABS went to You Tube to watch a few Bobby Kennedy vids.

Now he may not have been your cup of meat but his person, presence,, and politicking was so superior to the clowns we are supposed to be all excited about now makes one pine a bit for the past because our nation’s trajectory is a steep decline

Nearly every pol in Washington would require a weather balloon attached to him just so he could rise to the level of a pond frog but we citizens think this year’s election will lead to some discernible improvement in our lives.

And it is unfortunate that the Arian Blogger, Vox Day, has had his description of Trump as the God Emperor adopted by so many otherwise sensible men.

  6. View from the Solent

    Sheri,
Startpage acts as a front end to google search. It just makes your searching with google anonymous.
A little while ago, Ixquick was a non-google searcher. Then it was absorbed into Startpage and was lost.

  7. DAV

I am told I am not “tracked” by StartPage. .. Still, people repeat the “not tracked” value of StartPage. Sure, and there are unicorns

If you don’t want to be tracked use the AdAway or Brave browsers or use Tor. I used to use Chrome with Unlock because it’s fast but now I only use it when I don’t care or, in rare cases, want to be tracked.

  8. Dean Ericson

ABS: ”Trump as the God Emperor”

That bit of rhetoric, or meme, is used to demoralize and discombobulate the progbots. Not meant to be taken literally. However, given the demonic vengeful fury of the left, should they retake power, putting their revolution up for a vote is nuts. Emperor Trump is not the worst fate America may suffer.

  9. Dennis

“President Trump announces massive Coronavirus testing expansion” (from a White House press release email). ‘President Trump has announced that his Administration will distribute 150 million rapid, point-of-care Coronavirus tests in the coming weeks’….”

This is why people are right – but generally for the wrong reasons – to criticize Trump’s response to the coronavirus. Why is he following such an inane policy? Instead of a coherent policy from the beginning to reduce the fear and paranoia – relying on real science and evidence, not The Science(TM) of the Left, and being the real leader he claims to be and trying to steer the country toward a more sane Sweden-like approach – he’s been half-assing it the whole time, wishy-washy about masks being useless, and now appears all-in on the testing mania.

Soon we’ll be seeing hyperventilating claims in the media of third or fourth (I’ve lost count) “wave”, most of which will probably be just normal colds or flu as we get deeper into fall and winter. What an idiot world. The end can’t come soon enough.

  10. The monoclonal antibody treatment that Trump received in a desperate attempt to keep COVID from killing him is developed with the use of fetal stem cells harvested from in vitro fertilization. Trump got medicine from discarded babies.

(It’s also fantastically expensive treatment that no ordinary American can afford, with or without insurance. And it’s approved only for “compassionate use”, meaning that the FDA will allow it if the patient is about to die, and there is nothing to lose.)

  11. Rudolph Harrier

    Sheri,

There are a lot of “alternatives” to Google that end up using Google’s results entirely, or partially (such as by averaging Google results with the results from other sources). Google’s architecture for searching is pretty elaborate, even if in recent years it has become more and more useless (both intentionally and unintentionally). So competitors don’t want to start from scratch and build everything themselves, because at the beginning their results probably wouldn’t be very intelligent (they’d be unbiased, but not useful).

The benefit to using alternatives is usually that they (theoretically) don’t personalize your results and don’t track you. I can’t verify the tracking part, but using private browsing/fresh browsers/VPN I can verify that many of them don’t seem to give different results depending on who is search (in stark contrast to Google).

Probably the most reliably different from Google is Yandex, but you have the issue there that it is heavily tilted towards Russian pages.

  12. Dennis

Re tracking, search engines, etc.: I’ve been using Duck Duck Go for a while now. And as Rudolph said, you can always try VPNs (though I’ve found some limit data and slow done the browser too much).

  13. Chad Jessup

Coronadoom is over, but the Coronadoom hysteria winds are still being fanned, an example being this headline from today’s Weather Channel Corona Virus update, “Possible Link Between Coronavirus Uptick, Wildfires”.

The Sunday night television NFL broadcasters were required to wear masks by order of a local politician, because he did not want them to become like President Trump. That is what needs to be feared – narcissistic, power-hungry government personnel who believe in a socialist nanny-state.

  14. Amateur Brain Surgeon

Dear Lee. The most pro life POTUS ever was treated with that?

Here is a FAQ from the Catholic Bioethics center. Do you know if this info is consistent with the treatment that Trump received?

+ 3. How does one know when a particular vaccine has an association with abortion?

Cell lines such as WI-38, MRC-5, HEK-293, PER C6, WI-26 VA4, and Walvax-2 are derived from tissue from aborted fetuses. Any product grown in these or other cell lines derived from abortions, therefore, has a distant association with abortion. The cells in these lines have gone through multiple divisions before they are used in vaccine manufacture. After manufacture, the vaccines are removed from the cell lines and purified. One cannot accurately say that the vaccines contain any of the cells from the original abortion.

  15. Uncle Mike

Yesterday Andrew Cuomo, Governor Death, threatened to shut down churches in NY. Again. Besides the obvious Constitutional violation, Gov. Death is blaming church goers for his murder of tens of thousands through his forcing of infected ChiVi carriers into nursing homes. His “solution” to his own crime: ban Christianity.

Christians should defy Gov. Death by attending churches in record numbers. Call his bluff. He sat on his hands while NYC was burned and looted. He will not dare to attack the Faithful, nor will his toadies. And just for show, he should be ex-communicated in a very public way by Cardinal Dolan.

  16. Dennis

Speaking of Trump: The left and the media (redundant, I know) were all having a meltdown on Sunday night after Trump did the “drive-by” thing to wave at supporters in front of the hospital, claiming he endangered the lives of the secret service agents in the car, that they must all be quarantined for 2 weeks now, etc.

One thing I haven’t seen addressed in the media though about this incident: Trump was wearing a mask.

So, if masks work and are the key to everything, as the coronadoom-mongers keep insisting, the other people in the car with Trump should have nothing to fear, right? (They don’t really anyway, but not for the reasons the fear-mongers think).

Saw a funny thing from the Babylon Bee about how Trump should have put a BLM bumper -sticker on the car so then he could call it a protest and then the media couldn’t accuse him of spreading the virus. 🙂

  17. Nope. Regeneron gets its embryonic stem cells through arrangements with IVF doctors who supply discarded embros. In other words, to use Briggs’ terminology, the unappoved (except for emergency use) therapy that Trump and his doctors insisted that Trump receive is developed with the use of murdered babies.

Also, clinical trials of Trump’s monoclonal antibody medicine were conducted in Wuhan, China.

Bottom line: Trump’s supporters are the biggest suckers on the planet.

  18. Dennis

Uncle Mike: One could argue that under canon law politicians who support abortion are already excommunicated latae sententiae, but since most people don’t understand how that works, a public declaration for Cuomo (and Biden and others who pull the “I’m a still a good Catholic, “personally opposed”, etc., despite being pro-abortion as a matter of public policy shtick) would be useful.

  19. Veronica

Dennis, they did mention masks. They said “they don’t work perfectly”. Okay. My question is, where do these people think the secret service agents were before the car ride? Nowhere near Trump? Do they not know what the secret service security detail actually does???

In general, though, I think that for a certain proportion of people, the fear narrative is seductive because it gives them the excuse to stay home and do nothing and somehow claim that’s heroic. NOT all, of course, but some.

  20. Dean Ericson

”Trump’s supporters are the biggest suckers on the planet.”

It does seem that way sometimes. But what better choice is there? Joe Biden, the central suck cyclone? Laughable. If you think the revolution is going to deliver paradise, or even an improvement — when has it ever before? No, there are bigger suckers on this planet than Trump supporters.

  21. What revolution? For the record, I think Biden is a trashpile and there is no way I will be able to bring myself to vote for him.

  22. John B()

    Lee

You do know you’d actually be voting for Kamala?

    Kamala! Kamala!
    I know it sounds a bit bizarre…

    Hey! there’s a song there

  23. Amateur Brain Surgeon

Dear Dennis. In 1948 The AmBishops issued a pastoral letter, The Christian in Action which was the public acceptance of the American Heresy – that one could be privately a believer but publicly one had to accept what the voters desired because democracy and religious liberty.

Hell, even Justice Scalia was jake with abortion if that’s what Americans voted for – he just objected it was not in the Constitution per se. He taught this cfrap to Amy Ciney Barrett and so we can look forward to another CINO on the SCOTUS. Nothing like fighting tooth and nail to seat a woman who will lead a double life for forty years

Father Gustave Weigel, S.J. was the first to proclaim that a Catholic had to live a double life because, although a Catholic in his private life, as a man of law which is framed for practical purposes he has a public role as a man of the law which is framed for practical purposes and canonizes no philosophy or theology.

Fr Gustave delivered that speech at The Shrine of The Blessed Sacrament in Washington DC on Sept 27, 1948.

AmBishops LOVED his argument and set copies of it all over hell and creation.

Many men think it was Mario on Hudson who invented the personally opposed but it was just his solipsistic schtick derived from the heresy of Americansm

D.E. correcting ABS: ”Trump as the God Emperor” rhetoric.

Me correcting ABS: Also VoxDay is a Christian who is not pushing the Arian heresy.

Per usual, Briggsy starts with a conclusion pulled from his posterior and then works backwards to find inane, bogus, cherry-picking ways to support it (…has this down to a friggin’ art-form).

Very well. Show us how bad it really is.

    https://apnews.com/article/election-2020-virus-outbreak-race-and-ethnicity-joe-biden-donald-trump-86bc00fe35ae242fabeafd6bf857a562

    (Associated Press report)
    7:35 p.m. 10-6-20

“…Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden says he and President Donald Trump “shouldn’t have a debate” as long as the president remains positive for the coronavirus.

Biden said Tuesday that he’s “looking forward to being able to debate him” but said “we’re going to have to follow very strict guidelines.” He says he doesn’t know Trump’s status since the president returned to the White House after being hospitalized at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for three days after a COVID-19 diagnosis.

Biden told reporters while boarding his plane back to Delaware in Hagerstown, Maryland: “I think if he still has COVID, then we shouldn’t have a debate.”…

  28. V

Read the Tablet article on China (per Briggs). Reminds me of the work of David P. Goldman. Keeps the focus on root-cause. It is very plausible that the croaking frogs are being slowly boiled.

  29. Malcolm the Cynic:

Your link confirms what I said: that Regeneron developed its monoclonal antibody treatments with the use of fetal stem cells harvested from in vitro fertilization. Trump got medicine derived directly from a research program that used discarded babies.

The article tries to suggest otherwise, because the particular cocktail that Trump received did not use the dead baby material in its specific formulation. Not interesting.

  30. Lee,

What a bold-faced lie! You wrote this:

Trump got medicine from discarded babies.

    And then admit this:

the particular cocktail that Trump received did not use the dead baby material

Medicinal company in the past did immoral things, need at 11.

  31. jay retlew

    Re: Lee
I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure the Regeneron cocktail is part refined convalescent plasma and part monoclonals grown in the Velocimmune mouse. No ESCs involved.

  32. Regneron uses discarded human embryos to develop its anti-COVID monoclonal antibody therapies, research which led directly to the version that Trump received. That’s a fact. Trump got medicine from murdered babies (using the Briggs terminology). That’s according to Regeneron’s own statements.

It’s also true that the specific cocktail injecting into the moribund president did not contain dead babies.

  33. jay retlew

Happy to be educated on facts. A link to a paper or patent describing the process would be appreciated.

  34. Trump got medicine from murdered babies (using the Briggs terminology). That’s according to Regeneron’s own statements.

    Er, no. According to you:

It’s also true that the specific cocktail injecting into the moribund president did not contain dead babies.

So the medicine is not “From murdered babies”. There ARE treatments with murderered babies, but – according to you, yourself – not the medicine Trump used.

  35. Malcolm:

I think your getting confused about prepositions, but at this point my meaning must be clear, so I guess you’re just being contentious for its own sake.

The medicine is *from* murdered babies: the research that led directly to it used murdered babies.

The medicine does not actually contain murdered babies as an ingredient.

“From” and “contains” are, you notice, different words. Sometimes they even have different meanings.

  36. Lee

What I am saying is, “from” is wrong. Yes, research was indeed done with murdered babies. I would stop it if I could. But it already happened and the treatment the President received did not kill more babies.

  37. “From” is not wrong.

We got the modern automobile *from* years of development.

She achieved success *from* hard work.

Trump’s medicine was developed *from* murdered babies.

This is a common and natural use of “from”.

It’s fine with me if you want to take comfort from the assurance that actual dead babies were not floating in Trump’s IV. But it sounds like we both know what goes into this research, and that Trump, a lifelong Democrat and supporter of the “right to choose”, wouldn’t give it a second thought.

  38. Richard Sharpe

I thought about comparing the Influenza IFR against the SARS-CoV-2 IFR, but I cannot seem to find good figures for the Influenza IFR.

Then I wondered about using the All-Cause mortality data which seems to be heading for a reduction during 2020 compared with 2019 and some previous years.

However, the panic porn purveyors could claim that a reduction in the number of people on the roads is the most likely cause of a reduction in all-cause mortality for 2020.

Is it possible to compare all components of all-cause mortality to determine that SARS-CoV-2 is not that lethal?

  39. Merlin

This blog, albeit 8+ years ago, was once a place for intelligent discussion between people with wildly different politics. Now it’s a conspiracy fearmongering joke. Completely useless.

  40. Dennis

The fear-mongering is all on the side of the media and politicians pushing the standard coronadoom Narrative, tyrannically forcing useless mask regimes on people, destroying liberty, lives, and businesses, upending social, economic, and political order to suit nefarious agendas – all over a rather mundane virus with an IFR about the same as flu.
