“The most vehement attack on the wartime press came not from Richard Nixon, but from William Tecumseh Sherman. ‘If I had my choice I would kill every reporter in the world,’ he sighed, ‘but I am sure we would be getting reports from hell before breakfast.'”

Outstanding article (originally linked at the indispensable Arts & Letters Daily) by who else but Victor David Hanson. This article essential reading for all those who expect wars to proceed with Hollywood timing and flawless precision.

  1. This lack of history also applies to supporters of AGW.

In Vancouver BC, in the Maritime Museum , there is a small ship called the St Roch with passed through the North West Passage 3 times I believe. Once when the passage was ice free.

During the 1930s, when it was warmer than now, and the early forties people were to busy staying alive, or during the war years, too involved in slaughtering each other to worry about measuring the ice content of the Arctic or Greenland or the melting of glaciers.

History is important to know and helps put today into context. The “since records were begun” meaning the last 30 years statement is ridiculous.

  2. Robert E. Lee was once asked why the South lost the Civil War. “We assigned all our competent generals to edit newspapers,” he explained.
