Bruce foutch November 30, 2008, 6:42 pm Mr. Briggs, I have a question that is OT. On Cryosphere Today, they chart the 1979-to-date data against a 1979-2000 mean. Is this a correct way to use a mean, considering that we are now at the end of 2008? Should the mean be recomputed as each day goes by to keep it up-to-date? http://arctic.atmos.uiuc.edu/cryosphere/ Thank you, Bruce
A Briggs December 1, 2008, 4:22 am Bruce, Well, that’s the way it’s always done. The latest thirty-year period ending on a decade. Harmless as long as you keep in mind what’s going on.
